I happened to notice an article published by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) yesterday. This article discussed an interview by Imad Moustapha, the Syrian envoy to the USA, with Al-Jazeera TV on May 5, 2008. The address of the MEMRI article is:
The address of a film clip of this Al-Jazeera interview is:
Mr. Moustapha constantly refers to the US "Main Stream Media" in his interview. He describes the Israeli air attack on the Syrian facilities at Dayr AZ-Zawr on September 6, 2007, by saying: "
The American Media.....establishment has already begun to pound away at this account and the blows will only increase". Mr. Moustapha (see photo below) contends that Syria had no nuclear facilities or nuclear material at this site. That Syria only wants PEACE.
Mr. Moustapha goes on to say: The Bush Administration has "presented the American people with a story according to which there is a great danger in that region, because evil rogue states like Syria and Iran are arming themselves with nuclear weapons, while the good, democratic, and angelic state of Israel is in terrible danger, and we have to do something in order to save Israel from the evil of those rogue states".
If this sounds like something the US Main Stream Media would say, then you are correct. A quick look at the back issues of the New York Times (10/11/2007, 10/14/2007, 01/12/2008, and 05/15/2008) shows an increasing tempo of articles and editorials in this newspaper, and their online site, basically pointing a finger at Israel and the USA as "loose cannons".
I will leave this analysis with one additional quote from Mr. Moustapha's interview: "
Sometimes It Amazes Me That My Enemy is So Naïve, Superficial, and Stupid...".
You and me both, Mr. Moustapha. I think I have answered my question in the title of my article.
