I decided to do this entry as close as possible to my previous article:
Saturday night, May 10, 2008, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, was very exciting. From approximately 8:30pm CST to approximately 10:30pm CST, Coahoma County (and Clarksdale) was under almost a constant state of "Tornado Warning". A tornado touched down at King, MS (approximately 5 miles NNW of Clarksdale). Others were sighted in Tate and Marshall Counties.
My son-in-law and I went outside during the time that this tornado was on the ground; and could distinctly hear it. A few minutes later, my wife, my daughter, my son-in-law, my 3 grandchildren, and I (and our dog Heidi) got in our hall and hallcloset with four blankets, six pillows, two pistols, three umbrellas, and our wallets. In the hall, the sound of the storm was clearly audible and our house shook violently.
Again, we were luckier than some of our Arkansas and Oklahoma neighbors, where several fatalities were reported. Several trees were damaged or up-rooted in the northern part of the city. At least seven houses suffered severe roof damage. So far, I have not heard of any fatalities in Mississippi; but that does not mean there weren't any.
Speaking with my mother on Sunday afternoon, she expressed her gladness that we were spared. She also expressed her saddness at the homes which were damaged. (She knew one of the families who owned these homes.)
God was watching out for my family again; and we had no damage.
